STINSON BEACH, Marin County — October 31, 2026. The Stinson Beach Fire Protection District has moved closer to replacing its aging emergency-response building following a $500,000 county contribution approved August 18. The project is significant for an isolated coastal community where ambulance transport and disaster response may require travel over steep roads.
What the county funded
The Marin County announcement says the new contribution adds to a $100,000 commitment made in 2023, making the county’s combined support $600,000. Half of the new amount comes from the West Marin Infrastructure Fund, and half from regional Measure W transient occupancy tax proceeds.
The fire protection district’s capital campaign describes a construction budget of about $14.7 million. Before the August vote, the district had secured approximately $14.2 million in pledges and gifts, leaving a roughly $500,000 gap. The county says its contribution closes the funding gap to begin Phase 1, but approval of money is not proof that the whole building is completed.
Why the current station needs work
According to county officials, the firehouse originated as a converted garage built in 1949. It does not meet modern seismic expectations and lacks sufficient space for training, daily operations, medical response and community use. Fire and emergency medical personnel serve local residents and visitors who can greatly outnumber the permanent population on summer weekends.
How to follow actual construction
Consult the Stinson Beach Fire Protection District’s project site for updated milestones. Its earlier campaign page anticipated an October groundbreaking, but an anticipated ceremony is not independent confirmation it happened. Residents should distinguish financing, a groundbreaking and eventual occupancy.
