STINSON BEACH, Marin County — October 31, 2026. The Stinson Beach branch of Marin County Free Library is among ten libraries improved under a $3.4 million countywide refresh program that officials celebrated as completed on October 29.
What was the project?
The county’s October 29 announcement says the renovation effort began in September 2025 and finished in September 2026. Stinson Beach was one of the earliest branches included, following the start of work at Inverness.
Across the system, improvements included updated furniture, more functional layouts, shelving, study spaces, children’s and teen areas, fresh interior finishes and better access to natural light. The precise mix differs by branch, so the countywide improvement list should not be read as a claim that every item was installed at Stinson Beach.
Where did the money come from?
The project was funded by revenue from Measure B, approved by Marin voters in 2022. The $3.4 million budget covers all ten libraries, including Inverness, Point Reyes Station, Marin City, Bolinas, South Novato, Civic Center, Fairfax, Novato and Corte Madera. It is not the construction cost of Stinson Beach Library alone.
Why it matters to a coastal village
A small local library is a place where residents can borrow materials, access online resources, study and receive help from librarians without traveling across the county. Renovating multiple rural branches, rather than only urban hubs, can help preserve that access. The capital project does not by itself establish a change in local opening hours or program schedules.
Check services before visiting
Use the Marin County Free Library website for the current Stinson Beach branch schedule, borrowing rules, accessibility information and events. The county’s October 29 ceremonial ribbon cutting was held at the Marin Civic Center to mark all ten branches, not necessarily at the local Stinson library.
